My name is Astrid Dahl of Thai and Norwegian blood, and have lived some of my life in Asia (Bangkok, Singapore, Penang, Bali) but most in Australia. I am living in Bali at the moment as I like to soak up new cultures, which then feeds into my art.
My art work is essentially landscapes with moments of irregularity that occur within my random process. Chance, improvisation and intuition are within each finished painting. I also embrace the poetry of life and land while bringing in the metaphorical light which is linked to the spiritual. Each work evolves of its own accord as meaning; spirit and paint combine with each other.
The techniques are gained from my constantly experimenting with a variety of mixed media. Some of these mediums include, acrylics, acrylic inks, texture gel, liquid acrylics, gold and silver leaf and oil paint which is the last layer. I have been painting and exhibiting for the last 38 years and have art works in many galleries, corporations and people’s living spaces all around the world. Some of these include, Madang (PNG) Singapore, London, Canada, Bali (Indonesia), Hong Kong, Australia and USA.
I hope the paintings speak to you. I am always happy if there is a communication link between you (the viewer) and the painting even though it may be different to mine. I consider each of my works as a form of dialogue between myself and the viewer, each expressing different viewpoints but continuing a meaningful, visual conversation.
