ARTWORK
Construction Woman
(Length x Width x Height): 62cm x 43cm x 39cm
Ceramic, wood and paper
Artist Statement on the Exhibit Sculpture:
Without natural mountains, we rock climb like the curious cat on a quest. From bustling streets to serene grounds, each space a common place to work and play. For the compassionate hearts, a pink room garden within, a shared humanity, in the race to save our biodiversity and from climate crisis. Walls whisper stories of change all around, our life and its multi-faceted folds, narrating tales of triumph, strive, and more – a mosaic of memories, through laughter and tears. Not forgetting the women who play their significant roles in the world today. And the construction women who were the pioneers in our early build environment. In the crucible of existence, their days were forged, each moment a testament to resilience. Though trials etched deep lines upon their brows, their spirits remained unbroken, steadfast. Their journey, arduous, was not in vain, for in their struggles bloomed the essence of life today.

BIO
Delphine Sng
Instagram: @souledonclay Delphine's affinity for art began in her formative years, dabbling in painting. While balancing a career in the corporate world, Delphine’s passion for art deepened. However, a serendipitous encounter with pottery 18 years ago shaped her creative path. She finds solace and creative expression in the malleability of clay, through which narratives are weaved into form. This became an intimate dialogue between her inner world and boundless possibilities. Her transition was marked by her acceptance as an Artist-in-residence at the International Workshop for Ceramic Arts in Tokoname, Japan, in 2011. There, she refined her craft and embraced the exchange of ideas with master potters and international potters; an experience that broadened her artistic perspective. Believing that art is a bridge between spiritual and material, she sees it as a channel that connects a shared humanity. Her exploration of clay extends beyond function and aesthetics, striving to capture the essence of life. Her works have been exhibited both in Singapore and internationally, including Chawan Exhibitions and the World Contemporary Ceramic Biennale. Delphine enjoys the artistic collaborations in different mediums and disciplines. As a Committee Member of the Sculpture Society (Singapore), she appreciates the evolving dialogue of contemporary sculpture and ceramic arts. |
