https://www.instagram.com/resinaquariumart/ I have always painted since I was young but never on resin until 5 years ago when I came across the japanese artist Riusuke Fukahori who was the creator of this style of painting. I am a self taught artist and I find resin painting very therapeutic and extremely satisfying, I was tired of painting on canvas and I wanted something new and exciting. As for my works, it took a lot of trial and error as the layers are complex and the right layering needs to be applied to create a 3d fish that looks realistic and at times, even feel realistic. Each individual fish is around 5 - 6 layers from bottom to the top fin, each layer is painted and resin applied then only is it possible to paint the next layer. Resin takes roughly 18 - 20 hours to cure so it is a long process. I add in wood elements, plants and some with ripple effects as well. Fish paintings have long been associated with feng shui, traditional ones are always hung on walls and I wanted to bring a new way to display these paintings, specifically sitting down on a table or console in a bowl or small box instead of being hung. I also feel it gives a more realistic feel as there is lifelike water ( the resin ) and the fish looks as if they are in constant motion. Resin gives the effect of water and aquatic fish are the most realistic in terms of size so that is what most of my subject matter is. |
