BIO
I Hsuan Chou
Instagram: @chouihsuan Taiwanese artist I Hsuan Chou (b.1991) is known for her pastel paintings of imaginary landscapes characterized by dream-like compositions and architectural representation of human figures. Her creative process is marked by quick intuition and an urge for space construction. Described as 'forming a space to exist’, the drawing method reflects her quest to find a resting place in an unstable world. Her human and animal subjects are often depicted in the midst of journeying, marked by a sense of safety and mutual dependency, an atmosphere through which she discusses themes belonging to the human condition. Founded by her faith in the biblical God, I Hsuan paints from a hopeful perspective towards eternal life and intends her art works to be visual prayers directed to God as her first audience. Her background in architecture influenced the environments in I Hsuan’s paintings, often featuring unusual living spaces co-existing with nature. I Hsuan received art education with KuangRen High School in Taipei. In 2005, she migrated to Singapore and studied Visual Arts in Cambridge A Levels. In 2016, she completed her Master’s Degree in Architecture at Singapore University of Technology and Design. I Hsuan resides and works in Bunde, Germany. |
