Artist. Kevin Tan
Kevin Tan Ngee Chye, born in 1963 in Singapore, is a celebrated artist and an influential figure in the Singaporean art scene. His artistic journey began with formal training at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where he graduated from the Graphic Design Department. For over three decades, Kevin worked in the advertising industry as an illustrator and art director, where he developed a keen understanding of both creativity and commercial viability. This background has enriched his artistic practice, enabling him to craft works that balance aesthetic innovation with broad appeal. Kevin is widely recognized for his evocative series that captures the nightscapes and "golden moments" of Singapore. His deep connection to the city’s atmosphere during these hours informs much of his artistic direction, with night scenes and the warmth of twilight becoming recurring themes in his works. His ability to translate these personal experiences into visually striking pieces has earned him significant appreciation in the art world. Versatile in his approach, Kevin works with a range of mediums, including ink, acrylic, oil, and watercolor. His subject matter varies between the familiar scenes of daily life in Singapore and more abstract explorations, demonstrating his technical skill and artistic range. In addition to his personal practice, Kevin plays an important role in nurturing Singapore’s artistic community. He serves as the president of The Society of Chinese Artists, where he continues to contribute to the development of contemporary art in the region. He is also a life member of the Singapore Art Society and active in NAFA Alumni and Club NAFA. His leadership in these organizations reflects his commitment to both the preservation of cultural heritage and the fostering of new artistic talent. |
