ABOUT ARTIST
Left Turn
https://www.instagram.com/leftturn.art/ Growing up with a happy childhood led me to believe that magic was real and that everything was possible. Ever since I was young, I always had an interest in the weirdest things and stories, even if they did not exist in real life. It is believed that this is how I began to develop wild imaginations that influence my art. The most important message in my art is derived from the colors. They have the greatest impact on the eyes of the public and I believe color is also the international language of art. So, I went from creating a quirky painting to making pieces of art in my own shades of colors and it started to make sense. When you see that everything is in your favorite colors, it will make you happier. I hope to impart the same happiness that I have felt to all who see it. In recent years, my paintings have mainly been about me and my private life. If you put all of my work together, you will be able to generate a great deal of information about me. Basically, I paint anything that attracts me such as my favorite holiday destinations, my favorite movie characters, my favorite food, my favorite pastimes etc. Sometimes, I also paint my very intimate emotions and thoughts when they were really strong at that time. Overall, I hope I could always bring excitement into people’s lives through my creations. |
ARTWORK
Twilight Reverie
Size: 40cm x 50cm Medium: Acrylic No matter how busy we are with our lives, it is important to take a break and appreciate the world around us. This painting offers a combination of both. The vibrant hues in the sky represent the variety of emotions we face throughout the day while the calm ocean let us feel grounded in the present moment. Just as the day surrenders to the night, we surrender ourselves to our deepest thoughts during this time. The boats symbolize our history and future — the journey that we have travelled and the path that lies ahead. How we create our future depends on what we do now. If we remain calm, we are more likely to make wiser decisions. This painting encourages us to pause so that we can relax our minds and bodies before we continue to sail forward. |
A Life of Dependence Size 30cm x 24cm Medium: Watercolor A lot of people in Singapore suffer from organ failure and the rate of kidney failure is the highest. This is very alarming because patients have to wait for nine to ten years for kidney donors. While most of us might think that older age people are likely to be affected, this is not true. Anyone can be diagnosed with kidney failure so I painted a young person to create this awareness. She is a symbol of patients who are suffering from kidney failure. If she is healthy, she could be putting on nice accessories and having a good time with her family and friends. However, she is wearing a locked chain of her damaged kidneys and a ticking bomb. In order to live, she has to unlock the padlock with healthy kidneys. The only way is to wait for kind souls to donate them to her. A life that depends on others to live is the saddest and most desperate life one could imagine. I hope people are more aware of this issue and have the heart to reach out their hands to save them. This way, more patients can break free from their helplessness and spend a better quality life. |
