ABOUT ARTIST
Nur Iman
https://www.instagram.com/nuriman/ Nur Iman, known by his alias "Stranger," has been an active member of the Singapore graffiti scene since 2005. His journey began with winning his first graffiti competition that year, followed by securing his first commissioned mural job in 2006. Since then, he has continuously been presented with similar opportunities. In 2009, Iman branched into Fine Arts, infusing graffiti elements into his creations. His artistic expression evolved from walls to canvases. Iman’s personal works uniquely juxtapose real-world issues with pop culture elements. Despite addressing serious themes, his art retains a playful aesthetic, featuring stickers, paint splashes, graffiti, and 90s cartoon characters. Iman's involvement in the art world extends beyond creating. He has participated in several group art exhibitions and, in 2019, showcased his skills in curation and art management. He represented 11 artists at the Tatinis art fair through his own art gallery, The Common Space. Iman is also passionate about teaching art. He has conducted a wide range of art classes, from adult art classes and college electives to secondary, primary, and even preschool art workshops and excursions, catering to all age groups. Currently, Nur Iman serves as a visual artist at Universal Studios Singapore, where he creates scenic artworks, transforming spaces to align with various themes. |
ARTWORK
Who is? 2 Size: 80cm x 80cm Medium: mixed media on canvas This painting is the result of reimagined version of my painting done in 2017, ’Who is?’. It features three balloons arranged to form the iconic smiley face emoji, a common symbol of happiness in digital communication. In this artwork however, the balloons’ strings lead off-frame, tethered to an unseen force. This subtle detail subverts the expected sentiment, inviting the viewer to ponder the question: In this day and age, who is actually genuinely happy? |
