BIO
The day the nation stood still. It was the era of doom and gloom in the year 1942 when the 2nd world war broke up; the year I was born. In the vicinity of the farmland of Yio Chu Kang where I was raised. The atrocity of the war brought adversity and poverty to the nation. Therefore, the progress of infrastructure was on slow pace and transportation was on a standstill because there were not many vehicles on the road. For one indication would tell the night-soil bucket system lasted for more than a decade. As years passed it was time that I received my primary education at the punggol district which was four kilometres from home. Despite of the arduous and cumbersome journey to school, it turned up into opportunities to capture picturesque scenes along the ways. The rustic landscapes emitted vibrant hues that became useful images for my paintings. My passion in arts remained strong. I made profound progress among other curriculums taught in class. At seventeen I enrolled in fine art tutorial with Nanyang Academy of Fine Art in 1959 under the coaching of Mdm. Geogett Chen but sadly to say that I have not completed the course due to finical circumstances. Somehow before long I was fortunate to get employment in an advertising agency. Initially I started off as an apprentice; through the years I achieved with numerous promotions. Finally at age 65 I fell back to my career in visual art. When I discovered my resourceful talents all the latent memories in my mind would be retrieved on paintings, leaving a legacy of aesthetic events that our young generation might not have known off. |
