IG: made_by_me.art Ron Gochangco is a practicing Architect and Interior Designer based in Singapore since 1999. In his practice as Architect/Interior Designer, he became very well acquainted with impressive artworks which is an integral part of his design whether it’s an outdoor sculpture or a main wall feature of the interior design, which in part influence him to pursue an artist career. Also as an avid traveller to different parts of Asia, being exposed to different cultures and arts, exotic landscape scenery, he started by capturing it thru photography, studying good visual composition, and translating them into free hand sketches to record the places he’s been to and eventually into abstract art and painting. His works are an amalgamation of texture and colours to create visual interest which encourage the viewers a sense of involvement and imagination. He is also a member of the Urban Sketchers of Singapore, a group who are professionals in other fields and have their own career and very passionate about “en plein air” free hand art. About the Artworks: I am always fascinated by the Nanyang Style of paintings with its very loose lines, monotone and minimal color as well as the vibrant scene of everyday life in Singapore especially during the bygone days where every streets are filled with everyday activities of Singaporeans, very animated ,the old shop houses in Chinatown which for me are very “quaint” or charming against the backdrop of modern buildings. I always think as an Architect, preservation of old architecture and buildings are very important in the modern society like Singapore. This is to remind the younger generation of the history of the place and the events that lead to what Singapore it is today. |
