BIOGRAPHY
Master Artist | Simon Wee is a Singaporean artist who was born in 1946. He was introduced to painting by his first teacher, the renowned first-generation Master Painter, Chen Wen Hsi, who taught him the basics of painting. After studying under Chen Wen Hsi,  Artist Simon Wee continued to pursue his passion for art and eventually graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1967.

Over the years, Simon Wee has explored various painting forms and techniques, which allowed him to develop his own unique style. His signature style is most distinguishable by one fluid calligraphic stroke in the center of a solid blank space. This may seem simple at first glance, but it requires a great level of skill and control to execute this stroke seamlessly.  Simon Wee has mastered this technique over the years, allowing him to create beautiful and meaningful works of art.

Artist Simon Wee's art is characterized by its minimalistic approach, which elicits a feeling of calmness and serenity. He limits the number of colors he uses in each painting, so that the single emotive brushstroke stands out even more in contrast to its background. White, black, and gold are his main colors, as his works usually convey the duality, or yin/yang, of life. However, he also incorporates other colors into his paintings, such as neon green or soft rose pink, to evoke certain emotions or meanings.
Creating his artwork requires great attention to detail and precision. Artist Simon Wee carefully plans each brushstroke before he begins painting, as there is no room for mistakes. If he makes a mistake, he would have to repaint the base and start all over again. This requires a great deal of confidence, which Artist Simon Wee has built up over the years of practice.
Despite the seemingly simple strokes and minimalistic approach, there is always a deeper meaning behind Artist Simon Wee's paintings. His works are a reflection of his complex thoughts and emotions, and he pours his heart and soul into each piece. Artist Simon Wee's art invites viewers to reflect on the duality of life and to find peace and serenity within themselves.
