Looking at Tania's work, you wouldassume she has been a potter her wholelife. The skillful mastery she exhibits - in particular, her handcrafted flowers are a true testament towhat can be achieved when you follow yourpassion and work from the heart. However, before dedicating herself to ceramics,Tania worked as an Architect and UrbanDesigner. For many years, she designed townshipsas well as slum redevelopment projects around theworld, notably in the Dharavi slums in Mumbai,India, and the Favelas in Rochina, Brazil. After her decision to pursue her passion forceramics, Tania began her training at NAFAstudying under the esteemed Singaporean masterpotter, Lim Kim Hui. In 2011, she traveled toJapan to study the intricate traditional art offlower making at the Tokyo Deco Clay Academy. With this knowledge, Tania opened up Tania claystudios ( now Padme Hum India) a socialenterprise in her home country India specializingin air-dried clay floral products. From then on Tania has been passing on her skillsto low-income women, providing them withstable employment and financial freedom. In 2018 Tania went to France to study castingunder renowned ceramicist Sasha Wardell. Uponreturning, Tania founded Padme Hum studioSingapore. Tania's unique background and skillset have shaped Padme Hum into the success it istoday and allow her to create truly one-of-a-kindpieces that appeal to people from all walks of life. I am inspired by nature and its relationship to theworld around me. How the roots of plantsentwine and mirror our human connections andrelationships. The flower growing out of a crackin the concrete, birds nesting in the eves ofbuildings. I love the versatility of clay, its abilityto create both solid and very delicate forms at thesame time. Combining clay with other mediums, the fluidity of ink and resin, or the naturaltextures of wood allows me to mirror the texturefound in nature and capture its beauty. |
