Her unique approach brings together texture, materiality, and a strong sense of space, and we’re delighted to learn more about the inspirations and experiences behind her work today.  Artist's Portrait About the ArtistCan you introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background & How did you first get interested in art? I’m a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, texture, and material exploration. My practice has evolved over several decades, shaped as much by lived experience as by formal learning. Alongside art, I spent many years working in interior and spatial design, which gave me a deep sensitivity to surfaces, materials, and scale. When I returned fully to the studio, all of that experience quietly became part of my language as an artist. Art was never something I consciously “got into” at one moment. It was always present. I grew up in a home filled with creativity, music, literature and conversations around these ideas. My father was a musician. My grandfather and uncle were painters and architects. They encouraged observation, skill and discipline from a young age. For me, painting feels instinctive—both as a response to the world and a way of listening inward. |

Are there themes or messages in your work?
I paint God’s creations—fruits, birds, animals, and landscapes—capturing them as realistically as possible. My goal is to preserve their beauty, as some may one day disappear due to environmental destruction.
This advocacy led me to establish Creation Art Gallery in my hometown, where I aim to remind people to protect nature and all forms of life.

What inspires your work?
My inspiration comes from my love for art and my desire to serve a greater purpose through it. Nature, my advocacy, and my passion for mentoring young artists continue to drive me.
Are there artists or movements that influence you?
Yes, I admire both Filipino and international artists such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Pollock.
How do your background and experiences shape your art?
My cultural heritage gives me a strong sense of identity as a Filipino, which I am proud to share with the world. My life experiences have taught me patience, resilience, and courage—qualities that deeply influence my artistic expression.
What challenges have you faced in your journey?
One of my biggest challenges was stepping away from art for 15 years to work in a corporate role, as I wanted to provide stability for my family and support my children’s education. I have no regrets—it was my responsibility as a husband and father.
In 2013, I returned to art, starting from scratch. At first, my work went unnoticed, but I stayed committed. I followed my mantra: “Pinta lang nang pinta” (Never stop painting). I believe growth comes from continuously improving oneself, not competing with others.

How has your work evolved?
My work has become more purposeful and focused on inspiring others. That is now the core of my practice.
Which of your works do you feel most connected to?
My still life paintings of mangoes resonate strongly with collectors. Many say they can almost smell and taste the fruit just by looking at them, which is very meaningful to me.
What advice would you give aspiring artists?
Never stop painting. Consistent practice is the best way to grow. Enjoy your journey, stay grounded, and always have faith—first in God, then in your work.
How do you view the art scene in Singapore?
I see Singapore’s art scene as vibrant and advanced. I’m excited to experience it and connect with local artists, as it will surely enrich my own creative journey.
How do you balance creativity and commercial success?
I focus on painting for joy rather than for selling. When you create with genuine passion, collectors will naturally connect with your work because they can feel the emotion behind it.
How do you recharge creatively?
I take breaks by going out—driving, observing nature, or simply stepping away from the studio. When I return, I feel refreshed and ready to create again.
If your art could speak, what would it say?
“Thank you, Lord, for all your wonderful creations.”
